What is Life Cover?

We're here to give your loved ones the financial support they may need if the unexpected happens. The death of a partner or parent inevitably has an emotional impact, but it can also lead to financial hardship, particularly where the main breadwinner is no longer around to support the family.

HSBC Life Cover offers financial peace of mind with a tax-free lump sum payable on death, or diagnosis of a terminal illness. Accidental Death cover is also included.

Our Life Cover can help to provide financial security. A lump sum could help to pay off your mortgage or other borrowing, pay for further education or simply provide an income for your family to help with day-to-day living.

Joint Life Cover is available in branch when you are looking to protect an HSBC mortgage. Joint policies pay out if one of the policyholders dies during the length of the policy, after which the policy ends.

Things you should know

As with all insurance policies, terms & conditions, exclusions and limitations will apply.

Terminal Illness benefit is payable on diagnosis of a terminal illness expected to lead to death within 24 months or the remaining term of the policy, whichever is later.

For Life Cover we will not cover you for suicide (within the first 12 months of the policy) or if you die due to a pre-existing condition that you have not disclosed to us.

How to apply


Get a quote and apply online.

You need to be an HSBC customer and registered for online banking.

We only offer single Life Cover online right now. For joint applications, you're welcome to apply in branch if you're looking to cover an HSBC mortgage.

If you've already started an application, you can continue where you left off.

It's often quicker to apply online, but we're still here in branch or over the phone for those who need our support the most.
